About 211

211 is not an organization.

It is a three-digit dialling code and a national brand held by United Way Canada.  Community Connection has a licensing agreement with United Way Canada to deliver 211 services and use their trademarked logo.

211 is a national 24/7 information and referral service to connect with government and community-based, non-clinical health and social services for people to solve problems, answer questions or provide assistance. 211 services are available by phone, text, chat, email, and online search. 211 services are free and confidential.

211 service is available in the United States and Canada. Find other 211 partners in Canada here and the United States here.

3-digit dialling codes reduce barriers to essential services.

The CRTC approves 3-digit dialling codes and requires phone and wireless companies across Canada to direct calls and texts to specific service providers. The following codes have been approved but may not implemented in all communities:

211  community information and referral services

311  non-emergency municipal government services

411  directory assistance to find a telephone number

511  roads and traveller information

711  message relay for telephone devices for the deaf

811  non-urgent health care advice and triage services

911  emergency police, fire and paramedic services

988  mental health and suicide prevention services (Nov 2023)

Land Acknowledgement

For over 15,000 years, Indigenous people walked upon and cared for the lands we now inhabit. The traditional inhabitants of this land, on which we work and live, include the Métis Nation, Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Wendat Confederacy.  These people and many others have inhabited this land, which was used as hunting and gathering places to support families and communities.

We are grateful for the opportunity to meet, work, and live here, and we thank all the generations of people who have taken care of this land for thousands of years. We acknowledge the impact of colonization and the loss of these lands on Indigenous people.

This recognition is clearly and overtly connected to our collective commitment to make the promise and the challenge of Truth and Reconciliation real in our communities.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Community Connection is committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive organization. We recognize the history of oppression that has resulted in ongoing disparities for the people and communities we serve.

Community Connection’s work is to guide people through the human service system and overcome barriers preventing them from acquiring needed services. We will identify and implement culturally relevant approaches to serving diverse populations and their unique needs.

We believe that by prioritizing engagement with diverse perspectives and evolving our organization to be inclusive and behave equitably, we will improve our services to people and build opportunities for learning, change, and accountability.
